Modernity

I don't recall anymore when was the last time I wrote. But that small talk I had with my student yesterday is still clouding on me. Along our conversation, I asked : "What was your best childhood memory?" A common question that we all have heard  time and again. He said, "The best memory I had was being simply happy even if I don't have everything." And I said, "That's right, I agree with you!" And then he added, " Now that I am a man, there are times when I am not happy". I remember he told me that he just bought a new house.

Modernization is good. In this present time, we can say that people's lives have really improved. Buying branded things, eating in expensive restaurants, going places, travelling, all these are no longer about status quo and it doesn't matter what you do for a living. We simply want to taste and enjoy things as they are and we don't have to wait for the morrows to feel them, to experience them. In this present time, we have learned to work even harder to achieve our goals. And it's ok.

But you see, while there are positive things brought about by modernity, I'm also afraid how far it may lead us, and how far it may affect our young ones. I want to touch the idea of satisfaction, of contentment, of simplicity, and of not weighing happiness through material desires. Yes, we sieze the day, but just how much of us really siezed the day just right, without losing our self for the world to see. Sounds, idealistic? No, I'm just talking about never feeling down when you can never be another else but your self. Envy, ego, pride...these must never be reasons for you to reach a certain dream.

You can work hard, enjoy the fruit of your labor, and be totally happy without a show, and just be the person that you are. :-)

Have a blessed weekend! Alla prossima!:)

This is so true, my friend, and I've been thinking about the same thing lately. People put too much emphasis on "what we have, what we can accomplish." It's starting to cloud our minds. Simplicity is the best thing and remembering just who we are. Lovely words, my dear.

So important to be content with what we have.
Being thankful for what we have and counting our blessings is what brings joy.
All of our things are just temporary and we should be more concerned about our souls.

well, Hollywood is a fun place to visit cause that's where they filmed some of our favorite movies, but if you ever visit California, northern California is beautiful with the mountains, oceans, and cooler weather. And Southern California is fun also with Disneyland and the beaches. I hope you make it here someday. : )

It's so true that "stuff" does not bring or buy happiness, but you would never know that by all the advertisements and expectations in our world. But it is simply true. True joy and contentment and happiness comes from within, and things will never be able to buy that. Being thankful for everything goes a long way to finding that peace and contentment, I've found. A very good post with excellent observations! Hugs to you today :)

It is what we are inside that is important. I do think too much emphasis is put on getting and buying things that we don't need.

As we grow older I find it is the simple things, the time taken to spend with friends and loved ones, those cherished memories are simply priceless.

All the best Jan

actually through media people knew more about "EVERYTHING" .
they observed vastness of lifestyles and there began the "RACE" .
they gathered stuff to make life easy earlier .

they gather stuff now to make life luxurious ,
basic needs have an end but no end for luxury and show off is instinct newly injected in people's nerve by seeing so much through media

I feel like I've been trying to control every situation that comes my way lately. Well there's nothing wrong with it if controlling...
